Gorgeous Laela and I met durning modeling in Cape Town, South Africa and in Hamburg, Germany. Currently she is based in Hamburg. A city where I have lived for almost three years.  Because she has the most healthy looking skin, I asked her to write an article for me about how to maintain a good skin! Read here her tips.

As a model obviously you have to really take good care of your skin, because every day make up artist use a lot of products on your face and if you don’t clean your skin well then your pores will get blocked.

Don’t you have time for intensive skin care? You can still take care of your skin by acing the basics. Good skin care and healthy lifestyle choices can help you have a great looking skin!

1. Use a good day cream

I am very blessed to have a good skin, I don’t have to do much to maintain a healthy looking skin.
I do think there are so tips tricks that can help you having a healthy looking skin.

The first tip I would give everyone is to have a good daycreme. At the moment I use Lancome Hydra zen and Hydra zen Yeux (this is for the eye area.) Before that I used a creme I can also recommend especially for sensitive skin: Hydraphase, Intense riche by La Roche-Posay.
I try to use a creme every night, even though I sometimes forget.

2. Clean your face every night
I don’t really have a beauty routine. I try to clean my face every night so I won’t have left over make up on my face. My cleanser is also from La Roche-Posay called Effaclar, a deep cleansing foaming cream. I wash my face with half warm water. For my skin type it’s excually best to have a foam/mouse wash cleanser, so no cleanser milk or oil. On my lips I use Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream.

3. Use SPF

In summer I think it’s very important to protect yourself from the sun. I use Hydraphase UV intense from La Rouche-Posay, this is a hydration moisturizer with SPF 20. If the sun is really harsh I will use sunscreen in the morning from La Roche-Posay especially for the face.

If we shoot outside I try to seek shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., because then the sun is the strongest.

4. Eat and drink right

I think it’s important that you drink enough water and also realize that your food can have a great impact on your skin. For example when I eat bad stuff like candy or pizza then my skin shows this; I will get uneven skin. I know people that react very bad on dairy products or alcohol or even chocolate. It’s good to experiment what works for you and what doesn’t.

5. Don’t smoke

Also I don’t smoke. I think this has a good effect on my skin. Smoking makes your skin look older and contributes to wrinkles.

Smoking narrows the tiny bloos vessels in the outermost layers of skin, which decreases blood flow. Because of this the skin doesn’t get enough oxygen and nutrients that are important for a healthy skin.

6.Moisturize during travel

A good moisturizer is essential. This can off course already be your day cream. When you travel it’s important to have a hydration cream with you. In airports and planes your skin often get dried out. When I have long fights I will always make sure that I put on a hydration cream at leased one time during my travel. Some girls I know use face mist (which is a kind of spray you spray on your face for refreshness, this is also an option. I only don’t like the feeling of having a wet face haha.)

7. Facials

I would also recommend having a facial now and then. I don’t do it as much as I should, but I do think if you don’t have a great skin, you will benefit from this a lot. Plan this together with a spa day!

Sauna’s open your pores so this can also work positive on your skin. Clean your face well after the sauna and then take for example a cold shower to close to pores again.

8. Masks & Scrubs

You don’t have to spend lots of money. There are a lot of good not so expensive cremes. As long

as there is not a lot of perfume and chemicals used, because this can irritate the skin. Try to scrub your face ones a week and have a nice mask after this. You can buy a scrub or make one yourself with for example sugar. It’s important that the scrub is not feeling to harsh on your skin. On internet you can find a lot of home made masks for your skin.

Off course every skin is different. Make sure to choose product specially designed for your skin type. Dry skin does not have the same needs as oily skin. If you don’t know what type of skin you have I would advice you to go to a professional. They can also recommend you the best products for your skin type.
